Safety Management System (Aviation/ Drone/ UAS)

Safety Management System is a systematic approach in managing safety in the aviation industry. Since becoming mandatory by ICAO in 2006, the airline community has developed considerable experience and acquired important lessons with regards to SMS implementation and operation. This course will guide the participants through the process of SMS since its early days to the latest developments by ICAO to allow them to obtain practical knowledge as well as conceptual thinking, both resulting from shared industry experiences. This also includes the latest requirements regarding safety culture and the enhanced protection for safety data and safety information included in the Annex 19.

In this course, participants will be able to:

  • Develop understanding of the fundamentals of Safety Management that is crucial for the Aviation industry.
  • Improve basic understanding on safety mitigation based on the evaluation of safety risk
  • Summarize strategies for safety risk mitigation processes
  • Identify the steps for a successful implementation and operations of a safety reporting program
  • Review and understand the requirements to comply with ICAO Annex 19 and local regulations (CAAM)

A Certificate of Completion is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 70% or higher on all exercises and exams. A special distinction is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 90% or higher.

Do I need to own a drone before attending the course?

No, you do not need to own a UAS/drone unit before attending the course. We will provide the necessary equipment (including drones) for training purposes.

What type of drones will I be using during the training?

Our training drones are currently multirotor/quadcopter. The exact brand / model are that are commonly used and commercially available namely:

  • DJI Phantom 4 Pro+ v2
  • DJI Mavic 2 Pro

As we progress, we will introduce and utilize the best (different) suited drone types for the specific requirements needed for the different training scenarios and outcomes.

Does attending this drone course automatically earn me a license by CAAM?

The short answer is no. Attending the RCoC - B or RCoC (EVLOS) Module 1 earns you a Remote Pilot Certificate of Competency in the course category that you have completed.

As our syllabus is approved by the Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia, participants of this course are on the right path for this purpose.
